Vörösmarty square in the heart of the downtown always houses exciting events. From 31st March to 30th April the Budapest Easter Market takes place. Visitors can choose from quality handmade handicraft products and buy Easter presents for young and old.
Budapest Easter Market is a new initiation of the Hungarian Handicraft Association. They selected around 70 excellent artists to present their talent and unique products. Each exhibitor had to pass strict inspections and must keep regulations to be able to participate.
All the products are made using quality materials, hand-crafted and unique. In addition to folk crafts, young designers are also represented. If you are lucky enough, you might even meet the artist in person.
What to expect
The usual tourist trash has no place here. On the stands you can find jewellery from all kind of materials, like leather, ceramics, glass or silk; objects for home decoration: from home blessing illustrations to frost proof ceramic mushrooms or elves in the garden. The must have favourites are the ceramic mugs, jars and butter containers with cute owls and birdies.
It is not only about shopping however. You can get to the mood and prepare for Easter after the long and cold winter months. On the stage various artists concert and different craftsmen present their skills and products. Glass blowers, toy and jewellery makers hold presentations. Creative artists teach how to make Easter home decorations.
The square is also beautifully decorated with flowers and lampions. There are cheerful programs for children and food and drink are also part of the fun.

Spring is in the air, so if you visit Budapest during the month of April, do not miss the Budapest Easter Market. Hopefully it will be as popular as the Budapest Christmas Fair – that is internationally renowned.
